NSW: Union and NRMA talks break down

Delays in roadside assistance will continue in New South Wales today after a breakdown
in talks between the NRMA and union officials.

Union leaders from the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union say concessions they
offered to the NRMA management have been ignored.

AMWU assistant state secretary JOHN PARKIN says he plans to meet members tomorrow to
decide how the dispute should proceed.

Roadside assistance officers want a 21 per cent pay increase over three years, but
the NRMA has offered 11 per cent over 13 months.

The union says the entire 420 permanent roadside patrol staff were sent home earlier this week.

Response times have stretched to two hours for motorists left stranded by breakdowns,
while contract workers try to fill the gaps.

NRMA bosses have condemned the union's demand that workers who were sent home be paid
for the time they were on strike.
